Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession which sees human movement as central to the health & well being of individuals.

At our initial consultation we carry out a comprehensive assessment of a patients condition, taking into account wider lifestyle issues, with a view to identifying the nature of the problem and recommending an effective treatment program.

Our methods of treatment may include: spinal mobilisation / manipulation, joint mobilisation, massage, acupuncture, electrotherapy, prescriptive exercises including pilates, posture correction for home and work.

Acupuncture.jpg

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the stimulation of special points on the body, usually by the insertion of fine needles. Acupuncture is one of the many skills used within physiotherapy as an integrated approach to the management of pain and inflammation. Acupuncture within physiotherapy is used within the background of clinical and research evidence.

Helen Tinsley & Jason Curtis  are members of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists.

Acupuncture can be used as part of your physiotherapy treatment, usually following on from your 'hands on' treatment session.

Sports Injury.jpg

Sports Injuries

We know how important your sport is to you and our objective is to get you back to what you enjoy doing as quickly as possible.

Early diagnosis and treatment of any sporting injury is crucial - but we don't just treat the symptoms. At your initial consultation we will carry out a full bio-mechanical assessment to identify the cause of the problem and we will advise how to prevent further injuries occurring.

We work closely with a number of consultant surgeons and other specialist practitioners should we feel the nature of any injury falls beyond the scope of physiotherapy.

Back & Neck Pain.jpg

Back & Neck Pain

Back pain affects nearly 80% of adults during their lives and neck pain about 50% - it is one of the most common reasons for lost work days and a major cause of disability.

Physiotherapists are musculoskeletal clinicians and are therefore skilled in helping with back pain. Expect an examination to include questions about your condition and general health; watching your movements and then feeling how your back moves. Treatment may involve moving your back joints with mobilisations or manipulation; soft tissue massage, acupuncture and advice on how to modify your habits to aid your recovery as well as a home exercise programme.

Headache.jpg

Headaches & Whiplash

Headaches are a common ailment which many people do not realise are treatable with physiotherapy. Often headaches are caused and aggravated by neck and upper back problems. The upper neck has nerves that link in to the head and any tight or stiff muscles may cause or contribute towards headaches. Poor posture or trauma ( ie Whiplash ) can also be a cause of headaches and is associated with neck pain.

Helen Tinsley has a particular interest in the treatment of headaches and has attended numerous courses dealing with this specialist area.
